the wild woods community rules The Wild Woods is a literate, realistic role-playing community. The following rules have been carefully considered and constructed in order to maximize fun and creativity while also staying true to this classification. We function with a three strike policy.; however, some offenses might result in stricter consequences depending on the severity and the offense committed. By joining the RP, you acknowledge that you have read these rules and that you will abide by them.
OOC » the golden rule All occurrences IC are to be separate from occurrences OOC, and vice versa. It should be understood by all role-players that the ambitions, sentiments, and behaviors of a character are not entirely reflective of those of their creator. Grudges over IC events should not occur. As people that have role-played for several years and as individuals who have experienced varied activities through role-play, the Community Coordinators and Community Helpers understand that the line between OOC and IC can sometimes become blurred. If you feel that an IC event was unjustified or that you do not feel comfortable with an IC occurrence, please reach out to us. We would like to do our best to serve you. » respect Behind every character is a creative and imaginative individual wishing to explore a character, write their character's saga, and leave their mark upon the sandbox world of The Wild Woods. We are all connected by several commonalities in our interests: we are fans of the Warriors series, we enjoy role-playing and making characters, we wish to help develop the world of The Wild Woods, we desire to join a tight-knit and family-like community, we want to expand our social circles to include more friends, and we have a desire to have fun. Keep this in mind as you interact with your fellow community members in OOC settings. There's an individual much like yourself receiving those words. Hateful language regarding race, religion, politics, and sexuality is never allowed in The Wild Woods. » consideration It is recommended that, when discussing potentially sensitive topics in an open location such as discord or local/general chat, one be considerate about the possibility that there may be those reading that have experienced these topics firsthand. Likewise, it is important for those who have experienced such occurrences to be considerate that others will not automatically know this about you. We are not saying that you must be upfront about this - we simply recommend that you be mindful of this fact. If you feel that an issue has arisen that needs to be addressed regarding the discussion of sensitive topics, please contact a Community Coordinator or Community Helper. » maturity The Wild Woods is set to be a T+ (PG-13+) environment. While often times this means that the content and themes included in this community might be geared towards older individuals, it is important to note that this rating also applies to mental maturity. In a community geared towards encouraging the creativity of every individual, there may often times be ideas that conflict or thoughts that are not complementary to one another. It is in such circumstances that both parties are expected to rise above such differences and maintain mutual respect and consideration for each other. This is the hallmark of a mature person. Juvenile attempts to belittle others are never tolerated. Please keep in mind that Feral Heart is an E+ (G+) rated environment. Maturity is not synonymous with frequent use of profanity or adult subject matters; in fact, it can be defined as an individual knowing when it is appropriate and inappropriate to discuss such matters. Please avoid juvenile behavior, such as (and not limited to): excessive cursing, spamming, harassment, etc. The Wild Woods seeks to encourage maturity in all of its members.
» role-play locations Any canon role-play for The Wild Woods may only take place on the official map, discord, or on the forums. Role-play that occurs on any other platform is not considered canon.
» map exploration Sight-seeing in the map is limited to your characters' Clan's territory and to use of the F3 button. This rule is in place in order to avoid interruptions to others' role-playing; there may be times or events where the map is open to full exploration. Keep an out for these announcements and explore to your heart's content! When in doubt, ask a Community Coordinator or a Community Helper.
» staff Community Coordinators and Community Helpers have a primary objective to ensure that everyone is having a fun and enjoyable time in our community. The ultimate goal for every Community Coordinator or Community Helper is to serve the community. For this reason, Community Coordinators and Community Helpers have the final say in all matters; however, it is important to note that most decisions are made after great consideration and discussion. If you feel that a decision made by a Community Coordinator or Community Helper or that the behavior of one of the staff is not conducive to the mission, values, and objective of The Wild Woods, contact Chigger through FeralHeart, the forums, or the Discord immediately. Staff are held to standards beyond that of other members and are required to behave in a befitting manner. IC » the golden rule All occurrences, information, and discussions known OOCly cannot automatically translate into IC awareness. Likewise, your own personal stance towards another role-player should not automatically influence your character's behavior towards their character. Remember: in the creative, sandbox environment of The Wild Woods, the character is an entity entirely separate from the role-player "controlling" them.
» realism Realism is crucial to immersion. To the best of its ability and as allowed by the Warriors series canon, the Wild Woods will be a realistic role-play setting. This means that cats should behave and function in a realistic manner, have realistic markings and coloration, have names that follow the naming guide, and have a realistic background. To this extent, hairless cats and purebred cats do not have a place in the wild. Hairless cats need certain environment conditions that can only be provided in a built environment and purebred cats are generally not let outside. This is not to say that cats cannot have characteristics of certain breeds. In fact, the Maine Coon was first a feral-bred feline (meaning that selective pressures from the environment caused its emergence) long before it was a staple house cat! Feel free to use pictures and characteristics of your favorite cat breeds to use for your character; however, please note that all cats in the Clans are domestic shorthairs/longhairs.
Community Coordinators, Community Helpers, and leaders reserve the right to ask a person to make changes to their characters in order to stay true to this rule. When designing a character, try looking up pictures of cats through various search engines. Players should keep the realism rule in mind when designing litters.
» clans A member of The Wild Woods may have characters in two Clans at a time: one Clan is denoted as the member's major Clan and the other is denoted as the member's minor Clan. The major Clan will always take priority over the minor Clan. Should all of a member's characters die in their major Clan, they are permitted to ask a Community Coordinator for permission to swap Clans.
You can read more about our Clan system here: thewildwoods.boards.net/thread/170/major-minor-clan-system » no consent environment and IC consequences In order to allow for a completely sandbox environment, The Wild Woods is a no consent community. This means that actions that your characters make might have consequences. The best example for this might be a character who refuses to yield or retreat from a fight they're losing. Death or serious injury could occur. Likewise, breaking aspects of the Warrior Code could result in punishment, such as picking ticks off of elders for a certain period of time or exile. By engaging in these activities, consent is already given for the possible IC consequences. We simply wish to replicate the "unpredictability" and spontaneity of real life in the wild through a no consent environment. Additionally, no consent applies to fights and deaths. It should be noted that thrill-killing - the act of killing another character without reasonable explanation - is never allowed. Thrill-killing will result in the role-play that caused the death to be voided, and a strike to be given towards the offender.
If you plan on having your character break one or more major aspects of the Code (forbidden relationships, medicine cat relationships, etc). or behave in an extreme manner (leaving the Clan temporarily or permanently, start a physical altercation with another Clan member, etc.) it is important that you discuss it with your leader first and be ready to accept the possible IC consequences. Certain actions (like breaking aspects of the Code) might require a 1d100 to be rolled in order to see if your character gets away with it! » fight role-plays The life of a warrior often means violence is a looming threat; peace merely exists as momentary punctuation between constant conflict with other Clans. Fight role-plays often are associated with a myriad of OOC problems, and for this reason we seek to establish some rules beforehand about how they should operate:
- The Unholy Trinity -- Auto-hitting, god-modding, and power-playing are never allowed in The Wild Woods. Members of this community may only ever control the actions and behavior of their own characters; characters are not invincible. For every strength there is a weakness. Should you believe that someone you are engaging in a fight role-play with is doing any of these three actions, contact a Community Coordinator or Community Helper with screenshots/logs of the encounter.
- All Attacks Must Be Anatomically and Physically Feasible -- No matter what the exact maneuver is, all attacks and moves executed by a character must be feasible. Members of The Wild Woods will be expected to take the environment, the weather, basic physics, and basic anatomy and physiology into consideration as they make their posts. If you doubt the feasibility of a move, contact a Community Coordinator or Community Helper with screenshots/logs of the encounter.
- Ask Permission -- Contrary to the usual no consent rule, when a fight begins it automatically becomes locked to outside intrusion. Those who wish to join a fight must ask permission from all parties involved. Additionally, informing someone OOCly about the fight and asking them to come help can count as IC to OOC.
- Three Dodge Rule -- During a fight, a character may dodge an action up to three times in a row before having to take a hit by a physically feasible attack. Repeatedly taking minimal damage may begin to count as dodges if done for too long. Remember: dodges might not be possible depending on the circumstances (i.e., pinned or in close quarter combat). Counters do not count as dodges. If you have concerns or questions, contact a Community Coordinator or Community Helper with screenshots/logs of the encounter.
- Not Everything is to the Death -- To reiterate a previous point, not all fight role-plays must result in death or a loss of consciousness. This is not generally seen in animal fights, where the loser begins to recognize their imminent defeat and self-preservation kicks in to force them to flee or yield and survive. If a character wishes to flee, they must make a post stating that they are attempting to flee. Their opponent will be given an opportunity to respond and either route the retreat or allow them to flee. Perhaps, though, letting an opponent that knows they're beat go is a good thing - victory is already yours if they're running! This is not so much a rule but rather a reminder!
» passage of time and aging Adult cats will age one month every second Sunday, or whichever day of that week the player of the character so desires. This means that every second Sunday begins a new month in regards to The Wild Woods time, and that every six months of real life time (24 weeks) is an entire year in The Wild Woods time. Pregnant queens should remain pregnant for at least two real life weeks, and should nurse their kits for at least one real life week. Kits will age three moons every week until they reach the age of six moons (2 weeks total). Apprentices will age one moon every Sunday or whichever day of the week the player of the character so desires until they become warriors (generally 12 moons). The maximum age for any cat in The Wild Wood is 14 plus a randomly determined (1d6) number of years old; however, many wild cats hardly ever live to see this age.» character slots, rare variations, and disabilities All community members are allowed to have three characters from the start. These character slots can be utilized with permission from your Clan's leader. Character slots are freed upon the death of a character; however, it is important that community members speak to their leaders before killing off their character. The third character slot can be utilized for the creation of loners or cats outside the Clans; however, it may also be used for Clan cats.
Loners and rogues at this time are required to role-play into the Clans. This is a temporary measure in order to solidify Clan activity. After getting permission from the leader of the Clan of your choosing (more often than not your major Clan!), you will have two real life weeks to have your loner/rogue join the Clan. This must be role-played. Clan leaders have the right to say no to loner/rogue join requests depending on their leader's IC policies and personality. As this is an interim measure, please expect this to change in the near future as the community grows and develops.Loners and rogues will count towards one of your three free character slots; they cannot fill the fourth.
A fourth character slot is available to all users automatically but may only be used for the adoption of characters from litters. Any character slots beyond this are determined on a case-by-case basis that will evaluate a member on their overall activity and activity on individual characters.
Please note that characters (every single character that you have) should be actively played on and developed. Characters that are not used for over two weeks may have their creators messaged by the leader or they may be placed on a temporary hiatus or removed permanently (killed off). This decision is made by the leader of that character's Clan. Ultimately it is up to the creator of all characters to ensure their activity.
Rare mutations (albinism, male calico, etc.) and disabilities (blindness, deafness, and lameness) will require permission from your leader. For the purposes of pursuing realism in the Wild Woods, it is important to note that many of these mutations and disabilities that might make a character more "unique" would most likely result in that individual's death or prolonged suffering. It is important that you do the proper research into the drawbacks of each of these mutations and disabilities before you talk to your Clan's leader so that you can effectively role-play your character. Each Clan will have a hard cap of three (3) characters suffering from a disability. The Wild Woods as a whole will have a hard cap of two (2) or one (1) rare mutations at a time depending on the mutation.
At this time, we have the following counts of rare mutations/disabilities: 1/1 Albino
1/1 Male Calico/Tortoiseshell
IC Occurrences:
4/5 Forbidden Romances
3/5 Blind/Deaf/Lame/Other Disability » thrill-killing The act of killing another character without valid reason, provocation, or consent is never permitted. Thrill-killing never includes reasonable self-defense - it shall only count as thrill-killing should the offensive party submit or retreat and the defending party continues the attack. It is important to remember that most fights in the wild do not end with the death of one of the participating parties. If you suspect or believe that your character was subjected to thrill-killing, contact a Community Coordinator or Community Helper immediately with logs/screenshots of the encounter in order to have the role-play voided and the offending party receive proper consequences.
Beyond these rules are guides that have additional information that are of vital importance for having a successful and fun time in The Wild Woods. Please be sure to read up on them as you get ready to leave your mark upon the world of The Wild Woods.
Welcome home, newcomer!
